Description
Pochampally Ikat sarees are woven in Bhoodan Pochampally, Telengana. The intricate geometric design is unique to these weaves and makes them stand apart. It takes a family of four to 10 days to weave one saree .Pochampally Ikat uniqueness lies in the transfer of intricate design and colouring onto warp and weft threads first and then weave them together globally known as double ikat textiles. Pochampally ikats can be differentiated from their cousins in Orissa by their feel. Pochampalli cloth is smoother than the flannelly Orissa cloth and not quite as heavy.
The design is inspired from a heirloom in 18th century. It was block print saree made in Gujarat , India. Colour inspiration was drawn from vintage pochampally ikkat silk sarees.
