Description
Patachitra is a traditional painting of Odisha, India. These are based on Hindu mythology and specially inspired from the life of Lord Jaganatha. This painting is one of the most oldest and most popular form art in Odisha. The name patachitra is has evolved from the Sanskrit words pata meaning canvas and chitra meaning picture. The traditions of patachitra paintings are more than thousand years old. There are three types of patachitra , paintings on cloth, paintings on wall or ‘BHITTI CHITRA’ and palm leaf engravings or ‘TALA PATRA CHITRA’. This paintings stil survives in places like Puri, Raghurajpur , Parlekhmundi, Chikiti and sonepur.
